Thursday Treats

A couple weeks ago I posted one of my favorite summer desserts (here) but this one is another favorite treat of mine.  It's perfect for summer nights, sitting by the bonfire on the beach or to enjoy on a camping trip.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with a dessert that consists of chocolate, graham crackers and marshmallows that's why I personally have a soft spot for....S'Mores!

Since, in my case I don't have any camping excursions lined up in the near future or easy access to a night spent around a bonfire....I decided I was going to make this delicious treat that's usually associated with being in the outdoors but with an indoor twist instead!

Enter...S'mores Pops! They are less messy, don't require holding a marshmallow over an open fire and the perfect accompaniment as a sweet treat while entertaining!

I feel like to have a true S'mores you just have to use a Hershey's bar!

Crushed graham crackers

A mess free S'mores on a lollipop stick!

Ingredients:
  • Hershey bars
  • Marshmallows
  • Graham crackers (I used kinnikinnick gluten free)
  • Lollipop sticks (you can buy these at Michael's or other craft stores)

Method:
1.)Melt chocolate in a glass bowl over a small saucepan of low boiling water.
(It's better to melt chocolate this way in order to prevent burning it by melting directly in saucepan)

2.) While chocolate is melting, crush graham crackers by placing them in a ziplock bag, and using a rolling pin, rolling back and forth over the bag until crackers resemble crumbs

3.) Place the marshmallows on your lollipop sticks

4.) Once chocolate is fully melted, remove from heat. Let cool for 1-2 minutes. Then dip each marshmallow in chocolate until coated, followed by rolling the chocolate marshmallow pop in the crushed graham crackers (it's best to transfer crumbs to a plate for easier coating).... Continue until you finish making desired amount!

S'mores Pop Stand:
I decided to make a super easy stand in order to display these treats.

What you'll need:
  • 1 small rectangle piece of styrofoam (that you can find at any craft store)
  • 1 can of gold spray paint
  • 1 small bottle of hot pink paint
  • 1 narrow paint brush
Spray paint the styrofoam, let thoroughly dry, then paint a pattern such as polka dots, a chevron pattern etc. and voila the lollipop sticks easily go in and stay in place for an easy display!
