Lemonade 3 Ways

Since as I mentioned yesterday I will be posting everything and anything summer related this week here on 'Meg Goes to Market'.  Today I wanted to share with you a classic summertime drink recipe...Lemonade!

Once the temperatures begin to rise I find myself wanting nothing else but this citrusy refreshing beverage.  It also reminds me of childhood when my friends (and little brother..who acted as the stand's mascot) would setup lemonade shop in my parents driveway.

So, I want to share with you today these recipes for lemonade from the traditional version, to a lavender infused one and lastly an extra thirst quenching version that includes mint. Enjoy!

Classic Lemonade

Ingredients

  • 6 lemons
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 6 cups cold water

Method
Juice the lemons to make 1 cup of juice. To make it easier to get the juice out, roll the lemons between your hand and counter top before cutting in half and juicing.

In a gallon pitcher combine 1 cup lemon juice, 1 cup sugar, and 6 cups cold water. Stir. Adjust water to taste. Chill and serve over ice. That's it!

Lavender Lemonade

Ingredients

  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/4 cup dried lavender
  • 4 cups fresh lemon juice (from 16 to 20 lemons)
  • Ice, for serving
  • Lemon slices and fresh lavender sprigs, for garnish

Method
Bring sugar and water to a boil in a saucepan, stirring until sugar has dissolved. Stir in lavender.
Remove from heat, and let stand for 10 minutes. Strain, discarding lavender. Let cool.
Stir in lemon juice. ) Serve over ice, and garnish with lemon slices and fresh lavender sprigs.

Mint Lemonade

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 6 cups water
  • 2 cups fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup mint leaves

Method

Place 2 cups sugar and 2 cups water in asaucepan and bring to a boil. Stir until sugar is dissolved and let cool. Place lemon juice in a large pitcher, add remaining 4 cups water and 1 cup of the simple syrup (made from the 2 cups of sugar water).
Stir in mint leaves and refrigerate for 1 hour. Serve over ice.
