Decorative Items

Ever since I moved into my current apartment I have had everything and anything home decor on the brain.  Since I live with my boyfriend (who didn't even have plates in his apartment before we moved in together).... I have been given full control for the first time ever to do the decorating.

For anyone who loves home decor as much as I do this was beyond exciting to me!  I constantly find myself looking everywhere for inspiration, from design magazines, other blogs and flea markets.  I mainly wanted to get items that added a personal touch to our home... as well as have items that represent the two of us...the current room I want to tackle is finishing up our living room...mainly the bookshelf in there.

One of the best things I discovered when searching for an apartment in San Francisco was the beautiful details and architecture of a good amount of the buildings here.

After scouring what felt like the entire city we finally found our perfect fit and one of the details that absolutely sold me on our place was the built in bookshelf in our living room.

The following are some decorative items that I'm wanting to add to the organization and decoration of the great and detailed bookshelf we have!

Golden Gate Bridge Bookends ... a perfect way to keep books organized and show love for this amazing city

I've always love Voluspa candles they make any room smell wonderful and have such a pretty decorative tin.  I was recently given the French Cade & Lavender one as a gift and I've been burning it every night since!

Vegetarian Chile Rellenos

I was super excited when my good friend Jocelyn and fellow blogger asked me to do a guest recipe post for her site.

The only requirements for the recipe was that it needed to be healthy and vegetarian....So I opted to make a more nutritious version of the classic Mexican dish....chile rellenos.

For the full recipe you can check it out on her awesome blog Peace Love Nutrition.

Baked Beet Chips

The other day I had a craving for beets and picked some up at the farmers market....while I usually use them to make a salad I decided to try something different and bake them as chips instead!

Ingredients

  • 2 medium beets
  • 1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • Sea salt

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, peel beets and slice them very thin, followed by a light coating of olive oil.

Place the beets in a single layer on a cookie sheet pan.  Then place another cookie sheet pan on top so the chips remain flat.

Bake until the edges of the beets begin to dry out, approximately 20 minutes....remove the chips and transfer them to a wire rack; chips will become crispier as they cool down, then sprinkle lightly with sea salt.

Army Jackets

While the rest of the country is sweltering, its been cool here in San Francisco.  It's the time of year when the fog rolls in and most evenings are filled with water in the air.

When I moved here from NY, I only brought two suitcases with me filled with my belongings..... and along with the other pieces of clothing I had in them were a couple of leather jackets and some very warm coats as well.

Unfortunately, with the temperamental weather that takes place here, I found that I needed an in between jacket that could also stand up to the elements.  That's when I noticed and then became obsessed with all the green army jacket clad girls wearing this look.....so as of now I'm officially on the hunt to get one of my own!  Here are a few of my favorites....
