Workout Wednesdays: Yoga Abs

Yoga has many benefits from de-stressing, improving balance, posture, to stretching your muscles.
Another plus for practicing yoga is that it can also sculpt your abs in the process!

Instead of always just doing crunches (which can get really boring), it's good to switch it up a bit to create a challenge for your abdominal muscles.

Yoga is an amazing way to do this!  Also, with many core targeted poses you will be able to work deeper muscles that can easily get missed by just hitting the mat and doing regular old crunches.

The main core muscles that are worked in the poses below:
* Obliques (side muscles that rotate your torso)
* Rectus Abdominis (center part of your abs they also make it possible to flex your lumbar)
* Transverse Abdominis (the deep muscles around your middle and when worked they act like a 'corset' for your abs)

Here are some of my favorite and effective yoga poses that I wanted to share with you that I do to help strengthen my core:

(great for stretching abs/lower back!)

(you will feel it working those sides)

From plank, transition into Side Plank Dip

Full Boat Pose (variation: here and here
